Special Professorship for “Social Scientific Research Methods with an emphasis on Survey Methodology”

The Department of Social Sciences, a part of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, invites applications for a

Special Professorship for “Social Scientific Research Methods with an emphasis on Survey Methodology” (W3)

in collaboration with the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin). The professorship will be combined with the position of the head of the research area “Survey Methodology and Survey Management” at the German Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) at DIW Berlin. The professor is expected to conduct research and teach (with a reduced teaching obligation of 2 hours per week) in the above-mentioned subject area.

Furthermore, it is expected that the successful candidate will teach at a master’s and Ph.D. level, the latter at the Berlin Graduate School of Social Sciences. Finally, the successful candidate should actively participate in further developing the collaboration between the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, DIW Berlin, and the Berlin Institute for Empirical Studies on Migration and Integration (BIM).

Candidates are required to have outstanding knowledge and research experience in the field of survey methodology (especially in the areas of sampling, failure analysis, and weighting/projection), statistics, and panel econometrics. Additionally, candidates should prove expertise in at least one applied research field, preferably migration and/or sociological labor market analysis. Candidates should bring interest and experience in multi-/interdisciplinary research projects, experience in teaching and research in an international context, experience in raising third-party funds for research projects, expertise in research administration, and proven experience in financial and HR management for the research area head position.
