Junior Professorship in 'Migration Economics’

 

starting 1 October 2019. This is a W2 tenure track position. In order to verify whether the individual performance meets the requirements of a permanent employment, an evaluation process will be opened not later than five years of service. The professorship will be funded by the "Bund-Länder-Programm zur Förderung des wissenschaftlichen Nachwuchses". The aim of the programme is to pave the way for a secure career in academia for early stage researchers. Tenure track professors at the HU Berlin are expected to carry out research and teach, as well as be active on various university committees and acquire leadership and management skills. The professorship conducts research and teaching in the field of migration economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration and the interdisciplinary Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research (BIM) at Humboldt University. In teaching it is expected to support the bachelor and master degree programs as well the PhD program with courses related to the economics of migration. The research should focus on the migration of individuals, households or at the macro level based on modern quantitative methods and/or equilibrium models. Alternatively, a focus on the effects of migration on labor markets and the economy is welcome. It is expected that the research will be published in international top journals and that the future candidate will offer the mentioned courses independently upon entering the tenure track phase. Moreover, a co-operation with scholars from other disciplines in the context of BIM is requested. The candidate is expected to possess the ability to perform research at the highest international standards. In order to assess these abilities, the search committee requests a concise research statement in which the candidate presents future goals in research.

The applicants must meet the legal requirements for professorial appointments in accordance with § 102 c combined with § 102 a of the 'Berliner Hochschulgesetz'.
